This private workshop is for beginners with no previous jewellery making experience who are interested in learning the fundamentals of silversmithing. 

Learn about key jewellery design concepts and the techniques for working in metal including saw piercing, filing, drilling, annealing, soldering, hammer/stamp texturing and polishing/finishing techniques.

You will walk away from this course with a hand forged, textured copper leaf or feather and a sterling silver ring or bangle. 

COURSE OVERVIEW

  • Safety in the workshop 
  • Using a jewellers saw & file
  • Shaping metal using hammers, pliers and hands
  • Texturing metal using hammers, stamps & punches
  • Introduction to the Orca torch
  • Soldering and appropriate solder choice
  • Polishing and finishing techniques

WHAT TO BRING

  • Visual journal and pencil / any design ideas you may have  
  • A postive attitude 
  • Any gemstones or cabochons or broken silver or gold jewellery you may want to incorporate into your piece (time allowing) 
  • Please wear closed in shoes and have long hair tied back 
  • Please bring an apron or wear old clothes

During your day of private tuition in our light, bright Sunshine Coast hinterland jewellery studio, you will have the undivided attention of an experienced jeweller and teacher with more than a decade of experience, as you design, develop and hand make your very own piece of jewellery. 

What is included?

Copper & silver is included in the course fee, however gold & gemstones are additional and must be pre-ordered).

Lunch & refreshments are also included.
