Sat 3 Feb / Gem Setting Masterclass
This one day workshop will teach you about a range of different settings. Your teacher will demonstrate the most common settings for faceted gems including a collet setting, claw setting, step bezel setting and grain setting.
You will learn to set your own gemstones in a claw AND a step bezel setting.
Students will be working with sterling silver. Other metals are optional. All tools and materials will be provided. Extra materials and gemstones available for purchase.
Students must have taken our 'Introduction to Jewellery Making' Workshop or have completed one at another school. You MUST have prior experience in soldering, sawing and filing.
This workshop will be taught by a visiting Master Jeweller with more that two decades of experience.
Time: 9am - 3pm
What to bring:
- notebook and pen
- a selection of faceted gem stones / cabochons
- Optivisor or loupe
- Any of your own hand tools / setting tools that you would like to use (must be clearly marked with your name)
- a packed lunch and a waterbottle
We will have a small selection of faceted gemstones for sale on the day along with sterling silver sheet and bezel wire if required (silver is $3 per gram.) *Please note that if you would like to use gold, you will need to bring it with you.
Please wear closed in shoes and have hair tied back.
