Jewellery Care

JEWELLERY CARE TIPS

Dust, pollution, cosmetics and perfumes can all destroy the brilliance of a gemstone and dull the surface of gold, gold vermeil and sterling silver jewellery.

We suggest that you take the time to properly store and care for your jewellery.

We recommend applying perfume or essential oils before putting on your jewellery.

Jewellery with gemstones or vermeil plating should always be removed prior to showering or swimming. s

Many gemstones (especially opals and rough cut gems) are very delicate. Hot water, harsh chemicals and household cleaning products should be avoided at all times.

We do not recommend the use of any jewellery polishing cloths which have been treated with cleaners or polishing agents on our jewellery.

STORING YOUR JEWELLERY

We recommend that you store your jewellery in the special packaging provided with your order.

You can also store your jewellery in any air-tight container or bag. Proper storage helps to prevent scratching of stones and metal. It is best to keep jewellery away from extreme heat or moisture.

Be careful not to place heavy objects on top of your jewellery during storage and to be gentle when putting on or removing your jewellery.

CARING FOR GOLD VERMEIL JEWELLERY

Gold and rose gold vermeil is an overlay of gold over a base of sterling silver. Gold vermeil jewellery requires special care.

The following tips will help you to keep your gold plated jewellery in good condition:

  • Remember to store your gold vermeil jewellery in an airtight container when not in use
  • Remove jewellery before applying perfumes, oils or lotions
  • Remove your jewellery before showering or swimming
  • Chlorine, especially at high temperatures, can permanently damage or discolor your gold vermeil jewellery
  • Avoid using cleaning products whilst wearing your gold vermeil jewellery
  • To clean gold vermeil jewellery, buff VERY gently with a soft and dry 100% cotton cloth or a microfiber cloth
  • NEVER use chemical cleaners on gold vermeil jewellery as it can strip the gold finish.

CARING FOR OXIDIZED SILVER JEWELLERY

The blackish color of oxidized sterling silver is a special treatment that is achieved by careful processing at our design studio.

With time and with wear, the color of the oxidized metal may lighten a bit—this is a natural and organic occurrence.

This is noticeable more on chains with pendants. If you attempt to clean oxidized sterling silver with a cloth or chemicals, it may strip off the oxidized finish.

Please do not clean oxidized sterling silver jewellery. Attempting to clean oxidized sterling silver jewellery will remove the finish.

CARING FOR STERLING SILVER JEWELLERY

Sterling silver will tarnish naturally over time but can be cleaned very easily. Be sure to clean the silver only and avoid contact with any stones, particularly pearls and soft stones such as opals and emeralds, as the polish may cause damage to these stones.

Be particularly careful of chlorine. Chlorine, especially at high temperatures, can permanently damage or discolor your silver jewellery.

Avoid wearing silver jewellery while using chlorine bleach or while in a pool or hot tub. Tarnish is also accelerated in a humid environment. Oils from fingers can also tarnish silver.

CARING FOR GEMSTONES

Certain gemstones require special care. Many Jewellery Collective pieces contain delicate, raw or fragile gemstones.

Please don't wear them in water and definitely keep them away from chemicals including household cleaning products, chlorine, bleach etc as well as hairspray and hair products.

We recommend storing your pieces in a dry, secure place or a tarnish proof jewellery box.

Jewellery Collective carefully inspects each piece of jewellery before we send it to you. We highly recommend you follow the above care tips to keep your jewellery in good condition.
