I get a lot of feedback on my website, with students often commenting on how 'user friendly' it is.
That's because I hired a professional to build my Shopify site, with all of the built in functionality I could ever want to automate my jewellery workshop bookings.
You see, I REALLY dislike administration and book keeping and having used a number of websites previously, including Wordpress, Wix and Weebly, I cannot recommend Shopify enough for a small to medium sized business.
Their payment gateway makes my life so much easier and I can track my bookings, clients and finances in real time.
When I was running my jewellery wholesaling business, It was also a really handy customer portal where they could log in and see my new designs and order online using a line sheet. It cut a lot of the administrative headache out for me.
My friend Katrina runs kmo web design in brisbane and has been an invaluable help to me. As an artist, I always struggle with the technical side of things so it was a relief to outsource the website design to someone who actually knows what they are doing!
If you are on the cusp of launching your own website, remember that good content and photographs are the key, as well as good keywords so you can rank higher in SEO (that's search engine optimisation) for all of you non-tech artist types.
With the requirement to have an excellent social media and online presence, I highly recommend brushing up on your website design and social media skills as it means you can be in control of your own branding and image, and that is absolutely invaluable when you are starting out.
Good luck on your jewellery journey! x Kim
